Alma’s Gluteus Medius Repair Patient Story
Maybe 3 years before the surgery, I was hit by an animal in the glute area during a birthday party, and I think that’s what started my pain. At first, I didn’t know if it was my knee or my hip that was causing my pain. I thought it was my hip because of my age. Other friends of mine were having hip surgeries, so I thought it may have been my hip. Regarding my condition, I was wobbling and swaying while I was walking, so I knew something was not right. I knew I had a lot I still wanted to do and do so functionally. I have grandchildren that I wanted to keep ice-skating with. After meeting with Dr. Nho, he figured out that it was my glute muscle.
Why Alma chose Dr. Shane Nho
My daughter is in the medical field out in Virginia Beach. She helped me with researching the right doctor to see for my condition. After searching and researching, she told me the person to go and see was Dr. Nho.
Open gluteus medius repair with allograft augmentation
Dr. Nho recommended an open gluteus medius repair with allograft augmentation.
Alma’s recovery
Right now, I am doing really well being 5 years out from surgery. I can walk long distances again. I have traveled and hiked mountains in Vermont and in Budapest. I know that during the surgery, I received a donor graft. I am extremely appreciative of that donor and family because it helped improve my quality of life.
